Local Art Exhibition at New Majestic Hotel
Post Date: 2015-04-27
New Majestic Hotel recently announced the launch of its collaboration with Flaneur Gallery, a contemporary art gallery that promotes the works of Singapore-based artists. The six-month exhibition launched on 17 April will be located at the lobby of the New Majestic Hotel, which is situated in a traditional conservation shop house in Chinatown.
From illustrations to sculptures and prints, the exhibition seeks to present art enthusiasts with a large range of art forms. The art pieces that will be on display in the boutique hotel’s open concept lobby illustrate stories that are inspired by the artist’s personal experiences and their observation of Singapore’s urban life.
Of Flaneur Gallery’s 15 resident artists, three will be featured in the exhibition. Look forward to the works of Justin Lin, a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, as he explores the physics of movement through the mediums clay and metal, among other materials. The prints of Sufian Samsiyar, who studied Fine Arts at Laselle College of the Arts, consistently reflect matters surrounding urban life through Singapore’s landscape and architecture. Zhang Fuming, who obtained a diploma in Fine Arts (Printmaking) in Laselle College of the Arts, often depicts isolated figurative representations using the techniques of printmaking and draftsmanship.
Through this collaboration between New Majestic Hotel and Flaneur Gallery, the two establishments strive to promote patronage of local artists, while facilitating the interaction between art-makers and the public.
Visitors are invited to head down to New Majestic Hotel to show their support for Singapore’s local art scene, as well as take in the unique sights of the hotel’s period-inspired décor, which features a selection of colonial furniture from the 1920s to 1960s in Singapore.
